American popular culture has produced few heroic characters as famous and enduring as that of Batman. The dark and mysterious hero who debuted in Detective Comics #27 in 1939 as a lone "Bat-man"; quickly became the legend of the Caped Crusader. Following his landmark debut and origin story, the Dark Knight was given many seminal elements, including his crime-fighting partner Robin, the Boy Wonder, and adversaries such as the Joker, Hugo Strange, and Catwoman.

Batman: The Golden Age Volume One collects all of the Dark Knight's early adventures from Detective Comics #27-45, Batman #1-3, and New York World Fair Comics #2.
