The 2004 "First French Settlement" silver dollar was issued by the Royal Canadian Mint to commemorate the 400th anniversary of the establishment of Sainte-Croix Island in 1604 by Samuel de Champlain and Pierre du Gua, Sieur de Monts. The coin is made of pure silver and has a proof finish.
