" Do not forget me! », cried a knight at the moment of his drowning. This is how the name of this spring wildflower was born. According to legend, a medieval knight was picking flowers for his lady along a river when, under the weight of his armor, he fell into the water. Since then, around the world, the 50 species of forget-me-nots have been called “Don't forget me” (“Forget-me-not”, “Vergissmeinnicht”, etc.) and the romantic symbolism of this flower expressing tragedy and faithful love has survived to this day. These endearing flowers are truly unforgettable. They consist of five one-centimeter (0.4 in) petals, the bud of which is a delicate yellow. But they grow so profusely that they create a veritable floral carpet in soft shades of blue, white or pink. They prefer rich, moist streamside soils, and gardeners who provide such conditions are greeted each year with an explosion of spring color.

This 50-cent sterling silver coin is the sixth in the Flowers of Canada series.
