Shape the medieval landscape of southern France, claiming towns, monasteries and farms!
Carcassonne is a tile placement game in which players draw and place a tile with a piece of southern French landscape on it. The tile can represent a town, a road, a cloister, a meadow or a combination of these elements. It must be placed next to already played tiles, so that cities are connected to each other, roads to roads, etc.
After having placed a tile, the player can then decide to place one of his pawns on one of the zones which compose it: on the city as a knight, on the road as a thief, on a cloister as a monk or on the grass as a farmer. When this zone is complete, the player who owns the land scores points.
During a game of Carcassonne, players are faced with decisions like "Should I use this tile to expand my city, or should I place it close to my opponent, thus making it difficult for them to complete their project and to score points? As players only place one tile and have the possibility of placing a single pawn on it, the rounds unfold quickly.
Carcassonne: 20th Anniversary is a special edition of Carcassonne to celebrate the 20th anniversary of its victory at the Spiel des Jahres in 2001. This edition includes the tiles from the base game of Carcassonne, the mini-expansion "The River" (with five new tiles of river), the mini-expansion “The Abbot” and a new mini-expansion “anniversary” of 15 tiles.
All content is compatible with existing and future versions of Carcassonne (the tile backs are identical).
